REEF GALLERY-CAFE Pacific Island artists received a much-needed boost with the opening of the Reef Gallery in April 2004. The Gallery provides a modern, eclectic setting, which has become a popular venue for the public to appreciate the art whilst enjoying refreshment from Reef Café. The Gallery has been specifically established to support Island-based artists. Its central focus is to provide a venue for them to exhibit their work in an urban setting. Collaborative exhibitions are encouraged, featuring New Zealand based Pacific artists in conjunction with their island-based counterparts. Recent exhibitions have featured the works of artists from the Cook Islands, Niue , New Zealand , New Caledonia and the Solomon Islands . Reef House flies the flag of each artist's home country. Reef Gallery operates on a non-profit basis. This philosophy is in keeping with the parent company Reef Group, who have a philanthropic and humanitarian involvement with the countries it deals with. Funding has been directed to Intellectually Handicapped children, the Niue Cultural Fund, Educational Funds, Rubella Vaccination, Health Trusts and Disaster Relief to name but a few.
